UTAR Leadership Development Programme
The programme is designed to equip students across all levels with essential leadership skills and a global perspective. It focuses on eight key learning outcomes, emphasizing leadership competency, global awareness, self-reflection, adaptable skills, societal impact, growth mindset, empathy, and formal recognition. The UTAR LEAD Programme aims to identify and nurture specific attributes in students, preparing them for emerging leadership roles and fostering qualities essential for effective leadership.
Objectives
The UTAR LEAD Programme empowers students through diverse leadership development opportunities, prioritizing personal growth, cultivating a growth mindset and empathy, refining skills essential for success in various contexts, and promoting active community involvement. Students are categorised into emerging leadership levels (1 star to 5 stars), recognizing their qualities and potential to evolve into adept leaders.

Assessment Structures
Leadership Attributes Development (30%):
- Evaluates USSDC points.
Leadership Experiences (30%):
- Assesses leadership roles, project level, and project impact.
Leadership Contributions to Communities (30%):
- Evaluates engagement in community projects.
Leadership-focused Professional Enhancement Training (10%):
- Assesses advanced leadership skills.
a) Eligibility: The programme is open to all UTAR students, including part-time and full-time students
b) Programme Duration: Participants may engage in the programme throughout their entire study period at UTAR, including the postgraduate period.
c) Registration for USSDC & UTAR CARE: Participants are required to register for the UTAR Soft Skills Development Certificate (USSDC) and UTAR CARE Programme, as these will form the assessment framework for the UTAR LEAD Programme.
d) Passing Criteria: Participants are required to engage in a minimum of three modules within the UTAR LEAD Programme and attain a minimum cumulative score of 30 points across the modules. The cumulative score will be calculated based on the assessment criteria outlined in each module.
e) Certification: Upon successful completion of the programme, participants will receive both a printed certificate and an e-transcript.
f) Maximum Score Recognition: Participants who achieve the maximum score points for each module are encouraged to continue participating in activities, projects, or training, as their continued engagement will be recorded in the e-transcript.
g) Deadline for Participation: The deadline for participation in UTAR LEAD modules is set prior to the last day of students’ studies at UTAR, upon completion of their studies as approved by the Senate.
h) External Activities/Projects/Training: Participants engaging in external activities, projects, or training must obtain prior approval from the University, Department of Student Affairs (DSA) or the relevant faculty/Centre/Division/Department in UTAR. Supporting documents must be provided as proof of participation.
i) UTAR reserves the right to modify the programme outlines, assessment criteria, and other aspects as deemed necessary for the enhancement of UTAR LEAD Programme.
