The decade ahead will be fundamental in designing and implementing a different vision of our planet, putting into practice the Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs.
The on-going pandemic has furthered exacerbated the precarious equilibrium we are all living in, stressing some major defaulting fixtures like raising inequalities and the permanent threat climate change pose to our lives and our eco-systems.
Therefore what the planet is going through right now further underlines the urgency for actions to promote and deliver the SDGs. Higher learning institutions must play a pivotal role to bring about the needed changes to embed new behaviours and actions that are aligned to the pursuit of the SDGs.
Building on a commitment to promote and deliver the SDGs, UTAR is coming up with a new and fresh virtual mobility program to forge a new understanding of the goals within the ASEAN region and the broader Asia Pacific, enhancing collaborations among higher education institutions that have such a vital role in implementing the goals.
The “Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): An Introduction with Action” is intended to be a major follow up to the International Young Leader Conference 2019: Youth Empowerment and Inclusion in Achieving Sustainable Development Goals on SDGs that UTAR organized in 25 and 26 October 2019.
The conference was a milestone for UTAR and the herewith proposed course is intended to further its commitment to advance in the promotion of the SDGs not only within Malaysia but within the broader Asia Pacific. (For more information on the conference: https://dsa.sl.utar.edu.my/IYLC.php)
The Department of Soft Skills Competency (DSSC) and Division of Community and International Networking (DCInterNet) will be working together with ENGAGE, Nepal in organizing a virtual programme on “’The SDGs: An Introduction with Action” for capacity building on SDGs and international networking among students from UTAR and partner universities.
The course is suited to both undergraduate and
graduate students coming from all the
academic backgrounds.
The programme offers
an introduction to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through
which the
participants will gain both fundamental and practical insights on the goals, with a focus
on the international
and regional “system” supporting and promoting them. Very importantly, they
will forge practical skills on actions they will take to promote and implement
the goals.
In a snapshot, participants will:
By the end of the course,
each participant will have identified at least one action either to promote
or
deliver one of the SDGs.
